Here's What I Learnt About Myself

For as long as I can remember, I've experienced erratic energy levels…

Some days I was on top of the world, while on others, I needed an insane amount of coffee just to function.

I rigorously experimented with numerous supplements, finding out what worked and what didn't.

Eventually, I turned to my DNA for answers. If certain supplements were effective, then it must be due to some genetic predisposition. Understanding this could help me align my supplement intake for optimal performance.

  • I possess the MTHFR mutation, a common trait in 60% of the population.

  • This mutation means that my body's methylation process is only about 50% effective, impacting my energy levels and mental clarity.

  • With the MTHFR mutation, my body struggles to process regular folate, impacting my mood and even my reaction to weather changes.

  • Methylation is crucial for creatine production; hence, this mutation leads to lower creatine levels, which explained my low energy.

  • Essentially, my energy systems were operating at half their potential.

Given the prevalence of this mutation, it's no surprise that so many of us are chugging down energy drinks and drowning ourselves in coffee.

Interestingly, if you have the MTHFR mutation, your body cannot fully process synthetic folate or other synthetic vitamins, commonly found in processed foods, leading to adverse health effects.
