Embracing a Growth Mindset

Unlocking Your Potential: Beyond Health Fads and Fitness Trends

You can drown in all the health fads you want – diets, pills, whatever new exercise trend is making rounds – but let's be real: it's all a spectacular waste of time if your mind isn’t right.

Dr. Carol Dweck, a researcher from Stanford University focuses on the concept of "mindset," which she has categorized into two distinct types: a fixed mindset and a growth mindset.

Fixed Mindset: In a fixed mindset, individuals believe their basic abilities, intelligence, and talents are fixed traits.

They think they have a certain amount of intelligence and talent, and nothing can change that.

People with a fixed mindset might avoid challenges, give up easily, see effort as fruitless, and feel threatened by the success of others.

If this is you, congratulations, you’ve put yourself in a mental prison.

In contrast, a growth mindset is a belief that abilities and intelligence can be developed with time, effort, and dedication.

People with a growth mindset love to learn, embrace challenges, persist in the face of setbacks, see effort as the path to mastery, learn from criticism, and find lessons and inspiration in the success of others.

People with a growth mindset believe that they can change if they try hard enough.

Here are 10 thoughts that can take you from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset:

  1. Sometimes you win and sometimes you learn

  2. I am capable of the tasks I set my mind to

  3. If what I am doing isn't working, then I can change what I'm doing

  4. I allow myself to "fail" now so that I can master it later

  5. This feels tough, but I'm tough too

  6. Mistakes help my brain form new neural connections

  7. Anything worth doing is worth doing not perfectly

  8. I believe in my ability to do hard things!

  9. Everything is difficult before it gets easy

  10. All experts were once beginners

So, what’s it going to be? Keep lying to yourself about why you can’t succeed, or face the uncomfortable truth and do something about it?

Godspeed, friends
